What is RT-PCR testing for COVID-19?
Right now, the majority of tests being used to diagnose covid-19 are genetic
tests. known as RT – PCR test.
This stands for Real time Polymerase chain reaction.

Can the RT-PCR test tell me if I am infected with COVID-19 ?
Yes, RT-PCR test will tell you if you have COVID-19 now. But it cannot tell you if
you had it in the past. The COVID- 19 antibody tests can give you information
    about past infection.

    Are these tests accurate?
These tests are very accurate because even if there is a tiny amount of virus
present in the patient’s sample. The PCR test is able to take the genetic material
from the virus and targets the gene segments that only the virus has, and makes
very large number of copies of these segments so that they can be detected and
    measured using this method.

Which labs are allowed to do PCR testing COVID – 19?
Since PCR testing is very complicated and costly, not all labs have the ability to
    perform this test.
Lotus diagnostic centre is a NABL accredited and ICMR approved lab for
COVID -19 testing. All are tests and equipment have been validated by
NABL and ICMR and Lotus diagnostic center has one of the best turn
    around times
    ( within 24 hours )

How is COVID -19 RT-PCR sample taken?
Two kinds of swabs are taken – Oro-Pharyngeal swab and a Deep nasal swab.
The patients head is tilted back 70 degrees.

When I will get the results?
You will get the results within 24 hours of giving the sample.
Documents to be presents for getting COVID -19 tested
 Prescription for COVID-19 test from a qualified physician
     Aadhar Card Copy

Can I get the test done at home instead of visiting lotus diagnostic centre?
Yes. We can organize a home collection kindly contact number 7019587561 or

What will the antibody test tell me?
Antibody testing can detect whether you’ve previously had COVID-19. It does not
tell you whether you currently have COVID-19.

If I get a positive result does this mean I am now immune to COVID-19?
No, if you encounter certain viruses the body may produce antibodies to help
defend against it, should you come into contact with it again. However
because COVID-19 is a new virus, it is not yet known if the presence of
antibodies provides immunity to COVID-19, or for how long any protective
immunity may last. Even if you get a positive result you still need to follow
government guidelines around social distancing and self-isolation.

How does the test work ?
The COVID-19 antibody test looks for the presence of a specific antibodies in the
blood for the SARS-Cov-2 virus (the virus that causes COVID-19). The presence
of antibodies on a blood test helps identify those who have been previously
infected by COVID-19. You’ll either receive a positive (antibodies detected) or a
    negative result (antibodies not detected).

    How accurate is the test?
No test is 100% accurate and a negative test therefore does not rule out previous
    COVID-19 infection.

How long does it take to get my result?
Your result will give within 24 hours.

When should I do the test?
Tests are best done 14 days after the onset of symptoms: a negative result
therefore only gives information about exposures that were over 14 days prior to
    the test.

If I get a positive result does that mean I’m contagious?
No. This test is for antibodies for Covid-19. These are formed in response to
infection with Covid-19 are best detected over 14 days after infection began. This
test therefore does not tell you if you are currently contagious.

I have symptoms, is this the right test for me?
This test will not tell you if you currently have Covid-19. If you have
symptoms, we are providing the COVID-19 RTPCR swab test to tell you if
    you are currently infected.

Can I get the test done at home instead of visiting lotus diagnostic centre ?
Yes. We can organize a home collection kindly contact number 7019587561 or

    What is antigen testing?
Antigen testing works by taking a swab of your nasal passage and/or back of
your throat. The swab is then sent to our laboratory to be checked for genetic
material specific to the SARS-CoV-2 virus (the virus that causes COVID-19).

What do antigen testing results show?
Antigen testing only tests for current infection. It can’t tell you if you’ve previously
had COVID-19 or if you have immunity to it.

How long does it take to get the results?
You can get the results same day.

    Are there any limitations?
As with any test, there are limitations to antigen testing. Although a positive test is
very accurate for confirming if you have the disease, a negative test does not rule
out current infection. If the tests turns out to be negative the ICMR guidelines are
    to perform a RT-PCR COVID -19 test.
Correct timing when swabs are taken is essential to maximise accuracy. Current
recommendation is that a swab is best taken within three days of symptoms
developing. But if necessary, the test can be taken up to five days after
    symptoms began.
